Daniel Varoujan - RIPPER

Ripper, ripper, break the clods apart,
Insert the seeds in the earth,
Gold is the wheat, and kernel is ruby
When submerged in soggy soil.

Spread your arms, clod breaker,
Embrace the abundance of the fields,
Today's seed is tomorrow's harvest
When it vanishes beneath the mass.

Ripper, shatter the defiant rock,
Cover the wounds of the plough-share,
Furrows are unvanquished swells
That you appease with ease.

Ripper, rip, break the clods apart.
Lock the mouth of the furrow
Where each single grain is amber!
Let no blackbird near to pilfer.

The ripper ripped, flattened clods,
Smoothed down endless lands!
Now swell the seeds under the soil
Like the teats of lactating goats.
