Nowhere
within the ancient
boundaries of Nayiri
-- except in the lofty
highlands of Zangezur --
does the land climb its own
mountains to touch
the face of heaven,
with monumental faith
etched in stone, reaching
the gates of its
Maker’s kingdom…
Nowhere
In Christendom,
one can enter a chapel
whose modest pillars
are rooted in clouds
and its seared cross
scrapes the sun…
Together, as one,
we stood and held hands,
at its naked altar – bare
as our souls – making
a burnt yet silent
offering of two
yearning hearts…
