They say the old wound very often aches
When the weather is cloudy and inclement…
Yet springtime today, so full of sun’s rays,
Spreads the delight of spotless sunlight.
The swallows soar in such inebriated bliss,
The flowering peach tree is blushing pink
Yet, I wonder why something is amiss,
Set in my heart like a splinter’s sting.
Just when is this spring to turn to summer,
To turn the lunacy in my heart to repose?
For many a heart, this season is harbinger
Of old splinters’ twinge, so remote, so close.
