I wake up nameless
In this place – outside
rain stalks a fading sunshine
as distant thunder
disrupts the fretful
prattle of the birds…
Still life of solitude –
A silent telephone
crushed half-smoked butts
in grimy ashtrays
half cinder half memory
of a fading misty
presence retreating in haste
towards the repose
of depleted days… and
the stillness of
that distant place.
